Say, "No" to School Vouchers

The school voucher program allows public money to be used for private schools.

This hurts the education of the public school children. When you pull two students out of a class of twenty students, to go to a private school with a voucher. the same expense to run that public class room is needed. It still needs a teacher, a classroom, heating/cooling, cleaning, resources, supplies. But, those two students left them with less funds. And now that have to ask me and you for more tax dollars. When they ask for more tax dollars and can't get it; they will cut resources and more jobs. Those people will be our cousins, Uncle Joes and the federal government will stop their unemployment checks and they will be over your house and mine when they lose their homes or need a meal. Yes, I am using a commercial to explain this cycle.

There is a commercial about Cablevision that I want to use to explain this exploitation. Don't hurt 18 students to give 2 students a private education with public money when studies do not prove that school vouchers are successful in improving achievement.

That's not what public education is about. Public education is about equity and equality.

So, what is the deal? And don't tell me this Governor is concerned about our health and welfare. This is the same Governor who won't sign this state into the Affordable Healthcare Program or the Federal Pre-K program.

I know what the deal is: Education the new is a big business, just like the prison system, a few years ago. We need choices inside the public education system. But, not this farce. The groups that support this is said to have given State Rep. John Deberry contributions of $100K and I am sure that they are spreading money out like sunflower seeds. Don't fall for this mess.

TaJuan's Politics 101 - Tip 2

TaJuan's Politics 101- Tip 2:This will be a Saturday Post for a quick read.

The National Democratic Party adopts a platform based upon research and robust discussions of its National Democratic Committee Members representing every segment of our Country and the best expert leaders in every field discussed. Gale Jones Carson represents Tennessee on that committee from our community.

Candidates who run under the label of a "Democrat" have a responsibility to respect and advocate our platform. When a Democrat does" his own thing", he needs to run as an "independent". But, he won't because most of us are Democrats and he wants to use our support to win while he works on his own agenda. In fact, I know of some black Republicans in Shelby County that all of sudden claimed that they were Democrats because they could not get elected by their Republicans. Public service should be about "we, the public". But, t it quickly becomes the "candidate's personal agenda" and we are tagged along for their ride.

I have a copy of the 20 page document for the DNC and no where does it mentions we support vouchers. It was discussed but the Party chose not to endorse that strategy for public education. So, when you hear Democrats talking about School Vouchers, be alert! Listen and ask them if this issue has been endorsed by our Democrat Party which is headed by our President, The Honorable Barack H. Obama.

These officials they may have been given large contributions from the other side to pimp us. Don't get fooled by a few "gonna get paid handkerchief heads". Get the facts instead. Support your party to produce long term results for us all and not quick cash for a few.

" The Democratic Party understands the importance of turning around struggling public schools. We will continue to strengthen all our schools and work to expand public school options for low-income youth, including magnet schools, charter schools, teacher-led schools, and career academies." The National Democratic Party Platform 2012 (You won't find vouchers in that statement!!!!)

Betta ask somebody, because I am not playing in 2014. E'nuf Said.

Let's Stop Giving Bad Politics a Pass to Hurt Poor People!!!

I just heard my friend, Otis L. Sanford's commentary on WREG about affordable health care. All I have to say it that I won't hold my breath waiting for Republicans to do the right thing. But, I am not going to excuse their bad behavior that harms poor and working people who need health care from the opportunity to have health care. I am calling them out for hurting poor people, black, white, republican, democrat, rural, urban...they are our citizens who need these benefits. I would hope a poor white rural person from East TN would not want to block his family from having health care just because it also helps a black urban poor family in West Tennessee. I don't believe that!

All "Be the Dreamers" should know that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, would not be silent with these states. I believe he would be calling for non-violent civil disobedience. He would not say, "Oh well, just die because the Republicans hate Obamacare." And, I believe, Dr. King would advocate for the rural poor in Rocky Top like he would for the urban poor in MTown!

I listened to the County Commission today, adopting new policies to skirt around the Affordable Health Care Law by making sure that don't give temporary workers 30 hours to avoid paying for health care. Crazy...tell your Governor and General Assembly to sign Tennessee up and stop paying games with citizens' lives. They need 40 hour jobs and you are trying to avoid giving them 30 hours. Sad Dreamers in Tennessee!!!

Anyway, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr was more than a dreamer.  He was a thinker, a strategist, an activist, and a doer.  Let these Republicans know that health is about life survival for some, and is bigger than protecting their political leverage. Tell the Governor that he is not representing the people who elected him when he stand in the way of their families' progress to score a political point when a President will still be the "POTUS" when you wake up tomorrow.  But, some of your constituents who could have been treated for diabetes, cancer, kidney diseases, and strokes won't because of your political so-called leverage.

In words of my the dear great late Judge Rita Stotts on her birthday,  "E'nuff said."

Hello 2014...I'm Baaack!!!

We may be a Red State, but Shelby County is the Blue Corner in Tennessee and a part of the 2 million spread for the President's popular vote. We should wear our label proudly.

Our Governor and County Mayor and others have shown us that they are not willing to go to the mat for us.  I don't care how moderate that want to appear, they are not willing to stand up for all Tennesseans best interest and opposed the Tea Party.  Remember, that when they get in your faces and smile and ask for your votes. Smile, shake their hands  and vote democratic!  That vote and booth is your moment to stick it to them for all the things they have done to try and stop the progress of our nation, state and county.  Let's play hard ball.

We need the Affordable Care Plan, but our Governor won't participate. This month thousands will lose TnCare because of his decision. We need the national PreK program, but our Governor won't participate. And those same corporate people who put $500,000 to campaign for a 1/2 sales tax could influence him, but they won't.
I don't believe the only people who are in need of health care, PreK, or unemployment benefits are in Shelby County.  I believe citizens in Knox County, Maryville, Kingsport, Pulaski, Tn would benefit, too.  We need local leaders who will say that to our Governor and General Assembly.  These basic needs are not confined to a region, a color, or sex, or culture...some needs are basic for us all.

The DA as nice as she is, tells our children to do what the police tells you to do and does not admonish the police for violating their constitutional rights.  Then, the Court throws out a murder case because the DA's office withheld information that proved the accused was innocent.  Come media!  Do your jobs.

Be very careful Democrats! It's election time and republicans are going to show up, pat you on the head, try to be visionary all of sudden. They will invite you to see a three-circus, come to your churches, weddings, funerals, and chitterlings dinners. But, you and I will not invited to theirs while they talk about our President, make excuses for not funding healthcare, PreK or taking a woman's right to choose away. Be very, very careful the piranhas our out and some handkerchief heads, too. Ya'll know what I am talking about.

If I stepped on your toe please don't comment just say "ouch". This is a call-out and no response is needed.

I am cracking myself up. LOL
